Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) Sun 12/17 12:30 PM

NORPAC Long Island welcomes Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) at an event on Sunday, December 17th along with special guest and keynote speaker Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY). Schumer is the Democratic Senate Leader and a long-time friend of the US-Israel relationship. Senators Stabenow and Schumer have worked closely on many bills over the last 17 years in support of Israel and reaffirming its right to self defense.

First Elected to the Senate in 2000, Debbie Stabenow is currently Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and a member of the Senate Energy, Finance, and Budget Committees.

Senator Stabenow has been a friend to Israel throughout her career. She believes that Israel has a right to defend itself, and she also believes that issues related to Israel must remain bipartisan. The Senator has spoken out against BDS activity on college campuses and is a current co-sponsor of the Combating BDS Act of 2017 (S. 170), a bill that protects States’ rights to divest from companies that boycott Israel.

She was also a co-sponsor of the recently-passed S.722 – Countering Iran’s Destabilizing Activities Act of 2017 – which would require new sanctions against individuals and entities involved in Iran’s ballistic missile activity, conventional arms trade, human rights abuses, and terrorism.

In December 2016, the United States abstained from voting against a one-sided U.N. Security Council Resolution condemning Israel. Senator Stabenow released a statement following the Security Council’s vote regarding Israel: “I strongly disagree with the United States’ abstention which allowed a one-sided resolution concerning Israel to be adopted. This resolution is not the way to achieve peace and undermines opportunities for direct negotiations.”
